Ah, praise is a very fickle entreaty. One day after I went out on the line and said that Big John is truly the best American with a chance to make Slam noise, he gets trounced by Berdych. Tomas is making a comeback this year, Miami finals, and steamrolling at the French so far, but how can you break Isner's serve so much? I've got to think that Big John had some bad frogs legs or something and ran out of gas early today. Now, about my picks, I chose Gasquet over Murray, Nishikori over Djokovic, about the only match I've gotten right so far at the French is that Ivan Ljubicic, the best name in tennis, right? would beat Mardy Mardy Fish, but I got to give Fish credit for extending Looby to 10-8 in the fifth. Maybe Patrick McEnroe did do the right thing in choosing to play Fish over Spadea on red clay in the 2004 Davis Cup finals in Spain. Nah, just kidding.Well, undaunted, I'm back and choosing Juan-Carlos Ferrero to beat Robby Ginepri in the third round in straight sets. J-C may be 30 and on the other side of the hill, but Ginepri is 27 and on the other side of the hill, and J-C is a French Open champion and great clay court player, and Ginepri is a big surprise to have reached the 3rd round, disposing of Querrey and Starace. Ginepri holds a 1-0 lead over J-C,but that one match was on grass in 2004, when J-C was in swan-dive mode. Photo credit: Henk Abbink
