safe_image.phpThere were no upsets so to speak in Day 4. Yes, Monfils beat Gulbis and I was surprised by that, but Gulbis has shown once and again that he is just a horrible slam player. The brash-spoken Latvian may have been ranked more than 40 spots higher than the Frenchman, but it has been five years since Gulbis ventured past the 2nd round of a slam! Egads, someone show Ernests how to talk less and play more five set matches. Otherwise, every single match yesterday played to seed. Today there are a couple of intriguing matches and my upset pick is Lukasz Kubot beating the young Frenchman Benoit Paire. Kubot is No. 107 in the rankings while Paire is ranked No. 26, but call me crazy, I like the 31 year old Pole to knock off Paire. Kubot is the only serve and volleyer still in the event after Llordra and Mahut went down, and besides, I want to see one of the Pole's high-kicking victory dances. The next best bet for an upset is to pick Verdasco over Tipsarevic, but I'll go with the American duo of Sock-RHarry to pull upsets off Tommy (Haas) John (Isner) instead. Look out for Pella and Pouille, too, they're good young players.
